My Hiatus!!
So its been like one months since I've owned my camera and I am now returning from my first hiatus. How pathetic. How in the world does that happen. Well let me explain. I HAVE A REAL JOB. Hello, what a reality check. I actually have to continue my day job, in order to be able to have this wonderful photography hobby/future profession. Finding time to click my camera has been as difficult a task as figuring out what shutter speed and aperture are (are those the same things). JK, I know those are not the same. Anywho... I'm learning that I need to find the time for photography, as difficult as it may be. If something is important to you, you have to make it a priority and dedicate the time it takes to perfect your craft. Now, this may not mean actually clicking away every spare moment of the day, but it does mean putting in the effort to learn a little bit at a time, each day. So for the most part, I've been spending whatever free time I have on learning the world of photography, which includes tons and tons of reading. (I don't mind this, I heart reading). So learning lesson, it may be a slower process than what I had set in my mind, but its steady progress nonetheless. Eventually I will get to my end result, even if its not by tomorrow.
P.S. Sorry for the boring post. And to think, you waited all this time for that....Pics to come. Promise.

COMPETITION IS FIERCE!!!
Ok, so after doing this photography thing for a couple of days now, I can admit....I didn't really know what I was getting myself into. I mean COMPETITION IS FIERCE in this photography business. Most people would be shaking their heads right now saying, yeah it is. But let me explain a little bit more. When I say "competition" I don't mean all those wonderful photographers that know a thing or two about taking magnificent pictures. I mean the two little camera thieves I have residing under my roof!! My hands have barely touched the black metal of my precious D90, all the while baring little tiny fingerprints of two wanna be junior photographers. They have clicked well over 95% of the 800 plus photos residing on my 4 gig memory card...and darn it..some of them are good. I mean, I'm not hating on my precious offspring, but DAMN, COMPETITION IS FIERCE and now I have my own flesh and blood to contend with!!! What is this world coming to?
So here's my dilemma...do I sabotage my up and coming photography prodigies, or do I groom them to eventually take over the photography world? Man, this one was a doozey!!! Alright, alright, as you can guess....I groom them (but sabotage was a VERY close second people).
So how do I do this. We only have one freaking camera, and when one of those little mongrels has it in her hands, its like prying a fresh carcass out of a lions mouth, virtually impossible. GET YOUR OWN CAMERA!! Ok...that was a little childish, but really. Why do they have to take over my dream?
Some people may see this as the perfect bonding opportunity. I thought about that for a hot second, and then thought, why couldn't we just bond over a good episode of Glee or the Voice or Justin Beiber like normal people!!!
Ok, ok, enough of my incessant complaining.
As hard as it was to overcome all of the childlike "its mine, not yours" feelings I was having over my prized camera, I truly came to realize that this is more than a tool for taking pictures. Its a tool for bringing together a family. My girls love taking picture and are so excited when they feel like they have gotten a good shot, composition and lighting notwithstanding. How great is that? In fact, my little one is even blogging....check her out...and she calls herself the "Little Photographer". How cute is that?
So whether or not I master any level of photography stake holding, the sheer joy and excitement I get to share with the two most awesome girls in the world over taking silly pictures is all the fame I need.
I'm going to enjoy taking this photography journey with my two little sidekicks....but ladies, you know Momma loves a good competition. So bring it on.....there will be no holding back in this game!!! MY COMPETITION IS FIERCE!! Now if only I can get my hands on, what's that thing you use to take a picture??? Oh right...MY CAMERA!!! Oh well....maybe I will get a shot in tomorrow....

OH HAPPY DAY!!
Words can not describe how ECSTATIC I was to finally receive my camera. Oh Mrs. Post-lady, you did not let me down today. I did not go to the office at 9 am as I mentioned in a previous post...I decided that I would just let things "happen naturally, on their own". I'm so glad I did because what awaited me was much better than multivitamins!! MY CAMERA!!!
As I pick up my packages from the office, I try not to run out of there like a crazy lady and scare my landlord!!! I didn't even make it to the car before I am ripping open packages. And low and behold....as I toss aside the little foamy things, I dig out the tool of my future endeavors. As I slowly lift out the buried box, it was like the sky opened up and shot a bright beaming light directly on the gold and black box of hope and dreams. I almost broke out in song and dance!!! Ok, so a little dramatic, but I swear it felt like that.
I quickly toss my new treasure back amongst the foam and race off to my car. I forget where the hell I was going in the first place and rush back to my apartment, pedal to the metal. I take the stairs two at a time and nearly bust down my door, forgetting I need a key to get in. And the frenzy begins... I'm ripping through that packaging like it was Christmas morning, lining my new objects of affection on the table in front of me. I have everything out, and then it hits me...ITS HERE....FOR REAL!!! Ok, what am I supposed to do now? Its like I froze right there in time, as if I was being asked to recite the preamble in front of congress or something. I didn't know what to do. Do I put a lens on first....wait where's the manual....oh no, it in Spanish, I only speak English..what are all these gadgets....why is this quick guide so small....am I missing something.....I'm about to lose it...ok, ok.....DEEP BREATHS NOW...get it together and figure it out. Ok, figure out how to turn camera on, find lens, figure out how to put lens on camera, set to auto focus....lets go!!!
And that is what I did. I headed out to the mall, because that is where I was going before I was interrupted by pure joy. First shot...steering wheel, second shot....water bottle....its on now. I make it to the mall and sling the camera over my shoulder and wear it like it was the accessory of the season. But then something changed. I realized I only had this thing for like 20 minutes and had no idea how the heck to use it. I WAS SCARED!! Scared to shoot anything. I mean, would people think I was weird....what if someone gets mad at me...WHAT IF I SUCK???? I powered through these fears and started shooting.... hesitantly at first, but became more confident as the day went on. Yes, even though I was only in auto mode, it sure felt great taking those first pictures with my shiny new instrument of dreams!! I don't know anything about pictures yet, but I sure hope the feelings I felt today as I unearthed my new camera, will be the same feeling I have with every single click.
So today was a success...not a success in the sense of shooting the perfect picture, but a success in knowing that I have embarked on something that will be fun and exciting, and if nothing else, a creative outlet I never knew I had.
I shot over 200 pictures today and am sharing with you the ones that I found to be somewhat good, even if shot on auto focus. Enjoy.

WHERE THE HECK IS MY BLEEPIN' CAMERA
So I ordered my camera right....like 50 years ago!!! WHERE THE HECK IS MY BLEEPN' CAMERA. I mean how am I supposed to become a world renowned photographer without the basic tool of necessity? MY CAMERA!!! Please oh please mr. dangermode27 ebay seller, please tell me my camera will be here soon!! I'm living in agony right now!!! I'm serious you guys, if there is not a Nikon D90 in my hands by this weekend, I'm so giving mr. dangermode27 a negative sellers rating!!!
All I freaking want to do is shoot!!
And why oh why did I have to order so many things online around the same time? It seems like everyday there's that damn yellow slip on my door beckoning me to pick up a package in the office. I hurriedly rush there with anticipation and joy, knowing my time has come....wrong!!!! Business cards...purses...work supplies....NO CAMERA!!! Why do you torture me mrs. post-lady, or ups guy...or whoever is leaving that yellow slip of disappointment on my door!!! I sit here starring at the slip that was left on my door today....two packages you say? And of course my damn office was closed by the time I made it home, so I must wait until tomorrow to see what treasures are awaiting me in those little brown boxes. But I will not be bamboozled anymore....I will not get my hopes up only to have them crushed by the multivitamins I ordered from vitacost.
Ok, I can't help it, I lied....please, please, please be my camera!!!! Oh little brown box of treasure...I know you will not disappoint me tomorrow!!!! I can feel it!!! My camera is here...the only thing now standing between me and the catalyst for the creations and ideas embedded in my imagination is 8 hours of sleep...

I WANNA BE A PHOTOGRAPHER!!!
Yes, I know, and so does everyone else in America right!! Well, I do, so don't judge me. Now, would you call this an epiphany? I don't know. All I know is I have never considered myself artsy or creative in any way, except for my love of photography. In fact, I would often exclaim..."I can't sing, I can't draw, but I love pictures." Doesn't that mean anything?? I say it does...and that's all that matters right?
Fast forward to today...man becoming a photographer is no joke!! You mean to tell me that its more than just snapping a couple of pics of cute kids and naked babies? What's this...editing software? Did you say business plan, as in I have to write one??? Ok so I naively jumped into this thing, that I am easily learning now, the same way many "newbie" photographers do....but honestly, is there any other way for untrained, amateur photographers to jump in? We don't know jack about photography until that one day we decide "I WANT TO BECOME A PHOTOGRAPHER" and quickly find out its more than just clicking away on your shiny new Nikon D90. Its hard work!!! So cut me some slack, I didn't go to photography school!!!
However, I declare "I will not be deterred"....I am going forward with this thing. I WILL BECOME A PHOTOGRAPHER!! I just know now, it takes hard work, effort, dedication and above all else, business skills, to really make my dream of becoming a photographer happen. I'm all over this thing now. I read every book I can get my hands on, every website claiming anything having to do with photography and bought several photography classes, tips and tricks from deal making sites like livingsocial. Im well on my way....
So this is where I begin...clean slate, fresh outlook, and proud to call myself a "newbie" photographer because I know one day I will look back and say...it was all worth it.
So thanks for taking a look at my blog and I ask that you join me as I share my "JOURNEY THROUGH THE LENZ".....
